Gawat! Bumi Akan Ditabarak Asteroid

Para ahli astronomi Rusia memperkirakan bahwa asteroid Apophis akan menabrak Bumi pada 13 April 2036.

"Apophis akan mencapai Bumi dalam jarak 37 ribu hingga 38 ribu kilometer pada 13 April 2029. Sepertinya asteroid itu akan menabrak Bumi pada 13 April 2036," kata Profesor Leonid Sokolov dari Universitas Negeri Saint Petersburg, Rabu (2/2).

Namun ilmuwan mengatakan bagaimana pun kesempatan tabrakan pada 2036 sangatlah kecil dengan mengatakan bahwa asteroid sepertinya akan terpecah menjadi bagian-bagian kecil dan tabrakan dengan Bumi yang lebih kecil dapat terjadi pada tahun-tahun berikutnya.

"Tugas kami adalah untuk memikirkan dan mengembangkan ragam rencana alternatif serta rancangan tindakan yang bergantung pada hasil pengamatan Apophis lebih jauh," kata Sokolov.

Asteroid tersebut ditemukan pada 2004 dan dianggap sebagai ancaman terbesar bagi planet Bumi walaupun ilmuwan NASA mengatakan kemungkinan tabrakan berbahaya dengan Bumi pada 2036 tidak bisa dipastikan.

Badan Antariksa Rusia mengumumkan rencananya lebih awal untuk mempertimbangkan program dalam mencegah tabrakan asteroid besar itu dengan Bumi.
